What Happened to WP Grandma?

It seemed like a good idea at the time…

For some time now I felt the WordPress community could have a little more fun.

And now, with the “Recent Unpleasantness” (FYI – Nathan I. stole that phrase from me.) it seemed more important than ever.

Soooo I made the decision to finally launch WPGrandma, a saucy old broad that was to bring humor and levity to something we all probably take way too seriously.

So I bought the costume, wig, wrote scripts, took a standup comedy class and got started.

It didn’t take long however, for this to become a burden and NOT FUN for me. It was just one more thing to add to my list of to-do’s and I started procrastinating again.

Those who know me also know that I have been studying and following the Law of Attraction lately and one of my mentors always says “if it’s not a Hell Yeah, then its a Hell No.”

WP Grandma just became a Hell No for me, plain and simple. WP Grandma had to die.

RIP WP Grandma

Here is her obituary. In Loving Memory of WP Grandma (???? – 2025) It is with a heavy heart (and a lighter workload) that we announce the untimely demise of WP Grandma, who tragically perished in a freak Gutenberg block accident. Despite years of warning others about the dangers of unexpected updates, she failed to heed her own advice when she clicked “Update All” without reading the changelog. Witnesses report that, upon activation of an experimental AI-driven theme builder, WP Grandma was instantly trapped in an infinite loop of full-site editing. Desperate attempts to escape the sidebar settings proved futile, and her last known words were: “Why the hell is this nested inside a nested block?! Someone get me Classic Editor!” Paramedics arrived quickly but were unable to locate the “Save as Draft” button, and tragically, autosave had been disabled. WP Grandma was last seen being absorbed into an uncloseable modal window, her final request being “Just clear the damn cache and see if that helps.” She is survived by thousands of WordPress professionals who will now have to navigate getting content from the client on time and scope creep without her no-nonsense wisdom. In lieu of flowers, please disable unused themes, update your backups, and for the love of all things holy, stop using admin as your username. Rest in peace, WP Grandma. May your errors always be recoverable.
