This is a re-recording of a Facebook Live I did last week showing you how using a 2-step proposal process will keep you from giving away work for free, get paid for detailed discovery, and get better at the proposal process over time. And how NOT doing it this way is like shooting yourself in the foot.
The reason I am re-doing this Live is that aside from the terrible production quality of that session, I think these kinds of topics are not well-served as a direct-to-camera type presentation. I think you need slides so you can take notes or screen shots on what I’m covering. I decided on this topic because a couple of my students were having trouble understanding the concept. Maybe others have questions, too.
Now, I want to let you know that I’m planning to go Live every day for the near future. I actually said that last week but I had some unfortunate tech issues and definitely had to work on that production quality. I’m calling this series of daily Lives – The Daily disCourse – get it? Most of my Lives are going to be like little mini courses. I hope to teach you something to help you every day until at least mid-March. Then they might come less frequently. We’ll see how it goes and if it makes sense, I’ll keep doing them daily.
Now its important to understand that in the development methodology I use, a LOT more time is spent on planning and design than is typically done. And the reason I do that is it makes the actual building of the site go a lot faster with a lot fewer changes or uh-ohs. It also allows me to get paid for creating the detailed proposal. And part of that whole methodology is the 2-step proposal process.
